The History and Unique Characteristics of “Dendrobium Raktasirin”
Her Royal Highness, Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, has bestowed this new species of red Dendrobium the name “Dendrobium Raktasirin.” This new species was bred and cultivated by Air Orchid & Lab in July 2014.
The hallmark botanical characteristic of this orchid is distinctive pinkish-red petal that is strikingly beautiful. Further distinction comes from the point that 3 out of the 5 petals of the flower have a white line that marks the outermost edge of the petal. The texture of the petals is fuller and thicker when compared to other varieties. This unique strain is popular for decoration and bouquets because of its strong long stalk, relatively easy growth period, flowery appearance, and the fact that it flowers throughout the year. Moreover, this orchid as a potted plant, is used for decoration in all festivals and occasions celebrated locally because its flowers maintain their splendor longer than other varieties.

ประวัติและลักษณะต้นกล้วยไม้สกุลหวายพันธุ์ “รักตสิริน”
สมเด็จพระเทพรัตนราชสุดาฯ สยามบรมราชกุมารี ได้พระราชทานชื่อ ดอกกล้วยไม้สกุลหวายสีแดง ชื่อว่า “รักตสิริน” เพื่อใช้เรียกชื่อกล้วยไม้สายพันธุ์ใหม่จาก สวนกล้วยไม้แอร์ออร์คิดส์&แล็บ เมื่อเดือนกรกฎาคม พ.ศ.2557
ลักษณะทางพฤกษศาสตร์ของกล้วยไม้พันธุ์นี้คือมีเนื้อดอกสีแดงเข้มอมชมพูเป็นกล้วยไม้สายพันธุ์ที่มีลักษณะของกลีบดอกสวยโดดเด่นเป็นพิเศษ เนื่องจากกลีบดอก (3 ใน 5 กลีบดอก) เหมือนมีการวาดขีดเส้นไว้เป็นขอบสีขาวรอบกลีบดอกอีกทั้งกลีบดอกทั้ง 3 กลีบนี้ เนื้อของกลีบดอกจะมีความสมบูรณ์และหนากว่าพันธุ์อื่นๆมีก้านช่อดอกยาวแข็งแรงเลี้ยงง่ายออกดอกเก่งและออกดอกตลอดทั้งปีจึงนิยมตัดช่อดอกเพื่อไปประดับตกแต่งในพิธีหรืองานต่างๆ นอกจากนี้ยังใช้ประดับตกแต่งในรูปแบบไม้กระถางเนื่องจากมีอายุการใช้งานได้ทนนานกว่ากล้วยไม้ทั่วๆไปโดยสามารถใช้ได้ทุกเทศกาลและทุกโอกาส
